Christina Pilar Varian is a PhD student in the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine’s department of pathology.  In 2014 she traveled to central Panama and climbed palm trees in order to look at the palm crown species community and how these communities might influence the abundance of the Chagas disease insect vector, the “kissing bug” Rhodnius pallescens.

In order to understand what drives this disease in Latin America, Christina focuses on plant and animal presence and interactions in hopes to provide a different approach on management implications for vector control.
