As part of the Science on Screen series, Ciné will be playing Embrace of the Serpent, which tells the story of the relationship between Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and last survivor of his people, and two scientists who work together over the course of 40 years to search the Amazon for a sacred healing plant.
Pilar Chamorro Fernandez, UGA Professor of Linguistics, and Lina X. Aguirre, PhD in Latin American Cultural studies from Ohio State University, will introduce the film at 7:30 pm, followed by a discussion. Join us at 6:30p for a cocktail hour welcome reception prior to the screening with snacks by The National.
Ciné joins a select group of independent theaters around the U.S. participating in this special grant program sponsored by the Coolidge Corner Theatre and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation as an initiative that creatively pairs film screenings with lively presentations by notable science and technology experts. With additional support from the UGA Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute.
