On February 27, 2015, Leanne Purdum , a PhD student in the Geography Department, presented “The Argentina National Migration Act and Reflections on Current U.S. Immigration Policy” which discussed her immigration law research with a focus on citizenship and human rights. Thanks to the generous support provided by the Tinker Foundation, Inc., the UGA Graduate School, and the Franklin College of Arts, she traveled to Argentina during July of 2014, where she learned about migration as a human right through the Argentina National Migration Act. Her developing dissertation will focus on the processing of unaccompanied children along the U.S.-Mexico border, and her talk explained how her time in Argentina has shaped her thinking about current policy in the U.S.
